Working with XHOSPIpro - in three steps
The working principle of XHOSPIpro can be described with three basic steps:
- Creating and editing life cycles: the life cycles are constructed using life cycle bricks from the data base or existing life cycles are copied and edited.
- Inserting and assigning values: values are inserted in value sets and assigned to life cycles or bricks.
- Analyzing results: the software offers a lot of possibilities to calculate, analyze, evaluate and compare the results of different products.
1. Creating and editing life cycles
The product life cycles are created on a graphical interface by adding one brick after the other from the database. The following figure shows a life cycle of a re-usable product.

Medical products can consist of one or more single parts. In the case of a bronchial suction system the single products can be the secretion bottle, the rack, the cap and other components. When these products pass through different process chains, e.g. different treatment processes or cleaning frequencies, every product has to be considered separately. Therefore a life cycle is created for every product of a product system. The result analysis can be executed for the single life cycle and the whole product system (product system = combination of several products, e.g. a bed with linen, pillow etc.).
The possibility to combine different product groups to a product system allows an analysis of the whole product life-span. E.g. it is possible to module and analyze a hospital bed which consists of mattress, mattress preserver, bedstead, linen, pillow, bed sheets, protective sheets and bedside table as a whole system. The software allows to investigate e.g. the application of the bed during one week and to identify the products or bricks which show the highest share in total costs and consumption of operating resources. Measures to reduce costs and environmental loads should affect these products and bricks.
