Working with XHOSPIpro - in three steps

The working principle of XHOSPIpro can be described with three basic steps:

  1. Creating and editing life cycles: the life cycles are constructed of life cycle bricks from the data base or existing life cycles are copied and edited.
  2. Inserting and assigning values: values are inserted in value sets and assigned to life cycles or bricks.
  3. Analyzing results: the software offers a lot of possibilities to calculate, analyze, evaluate and compare the results of different products.

3. Calculation and analysis of results

The software offers various possibilities to analyze the calculated results. First of all the total results for the product system can be calculated. With this feature the user can analyze which costs the application of a certain product causes considering the whole life cycle from purchase and treatment  to the disposal and all transport and handling processes in the hospital. The results can be displayed for one application of the product or all applications per year. The displayed results are values like staff costs, allocated capital costs, expended working time for every occupational group, consumption of water, electricity, cleaning and disinfecting agents, waste generation and many more results (please see the following figure).

Especially interesting is the feature to analyze the life cycle with view to certain cost and consumption values. Every single result value like water consumption or waste amount can be analyzed in detail. E.g. the water consumption can be displayed for every life cycle of the product system and for all bricks of the life cycle. The next figure shows as an example the results for the waste amount of the handling of a kidney dish. The sterile packing of the kidney dish is responsible for a bigger share of the waste amount. As the kidney dish can be used and treated very often, the disposal contributes just a small part to the waste amount of one application of the product.

To identify saving potentials the user can analyze the relevant bricks which are most relevant for costs and environment and find out if the handling can be improved. In a special table the results are displayed for the selected brick and related to the total results of the product system. The following figure shows an example of brick results.

To compare process chains and products the results can be displayed on the screen in parallel columns. So the he most favorable alternative according costs and consumptions can be identified easily. The user can evaluate how changes in the process chain, e.g. automatic cleaning instead of manual cleaning , affect the results. To achieve this, the life cycles representing an optimized alternative to the life cycle representing the present process chain can be modeled with the software. This can be done efficiently by copying existing life cycles and editing just the changes.

In this way comparisons between central and decentralized treatment processes, the influence of shortened and extended changing intervals and many other questions can be executed.
